On the first day of Thanksgiving my True Love gave to me.....

Scripture (Matthew 27) records that at the exact moment of Jesus' death upon the cross, the once impenetrable veil that separated the area known as the "Holy of Holies" from the rest of Solomon's temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The significance? In the Old Testament, behind that veil (within the Holy of Holies) dwelled the presence of God. It stood almost 60 feet high and 4 inches thick signifying man's separation from God by sin. Only the High Priest was permitted to pass beyond this veil annually to make an atonement for the sins of the people. When Jesus (the Ultimate High Priest) died, the sacrifice in the shedding of His own blood was sufficient atonement for all our sins forever, allowing full and free access to the area known as "Holy of Holies" by everyone. The veil of separation was now broken.

It must of been quite a day- the day that the presence of God became accessible to all men. To know that despite ourselves, the atonement of Christ still stands now and forever, and that we can all still lay claim to redemption bought and paid by the sacrifice of God. "O Taste and see that the Lord is good" - Psalm 34:8

So, if you are fortunate enough to gather around a prepared table, full of food, family, and love, consider it one more reason to give thanks. But, If you are without some or all of these, Thanksgiving today has also come to you. For the veil was torn in two, providing a more exceedingly greater gift- Full and free access to the very heart and soul of God Himself.

Happy Thanksgiving
